Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our cardiac services and what to expect during your visit.
When should I see a heart specialist?
It depends on how serious your symptoms are.
Call 995 or go to A&E if you have chest pain or pressure, severe shortness of breath, fainting, or sudden weakness, numbness, or slurred speech — these can be signs of a heart attack or stroke.
Book a specialist appointment for non-emergency concerns such as an irregular heartbeat, palpitations, exercise-triggered breathlessness, dizziness, or unexplained fatigue.
Consider regular cardiac screening if you have risk factors — family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or a smoking history. Your GP can also refer you for further evaluation.
What does a cardiac screening involve?
A cardiac screening typically includes a consultation with Dr Paul Lim, an electrocardiogram (ECG), blood tests to check cholesterol and other cardiac markers, and may include an echocardiogram or stress test depending on your risk profile. Dr Lim will recommend a screening plan based on your age, family history, and risk factors.
How do I prepare for my first cardiology appointment?
Bring a list of your current medications, any previous medical reports or test results, your insurance card, and a note of your symptoms and when they occur. If you are having blood tests, you may be asked to fast for 8 to 12 hours beforehand. Wear comfortable clothing, especially if you may undergo a stress test.
Is the clinic covered by insurance?
We work with most major insurance providers in Singapore. Please contact our clinic to verify coverage with your specific insurance plan before your appointment. Our staff can assist with insurance pre-authorisation and claims processing.
What heart conditions does Dr Paul Lim treat?

He has a special interest in cardiac electrophysiology, including pacemaker and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation and management.
